On Saturday, Clermont United FC suffered their first defeat of the season as they were struck down by Lens in a high-scoring encounter at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The match was a thrilling affair from start to finish, with both teams displaying excellent attacking football. However, it was Lens who took control early on, scoring two goals within three minutes through Florian Fofana and David Openda.

Despite being behind, Clermont responded well and equalized through Maxime Crevon's header. The hosts then dominated for much of the second half, creating numerous chances but failing to convert them into goals.

However, Lens showed no signs of giving up and managed to score a late winner through a penalty converted by Mathieu Deuchert. The result leaves Clermont with just one win from their opening four games of the season.

Despite the defeat, Clermont boss Jean-Louis Gasset praised his team's performance and said that they will be looking to bounce back against struggling Troyes AC next weekend. "I am proud of my players," he said. "We played well and created a lot of chances, but we have to improve our finishing."

Overall, this was a tough loss for Clermont, but they can take heart from the fact that they have shown great resilience and determination throughout the season so far. They will now turn their attention to their next game and hope to build on their recent form.
