As Lyon manager Didier Deschamps prepares for his team's next game against Marseille on Sunday, the prospect of another loss is not lost on him. The French champions have struggled to find consistency in their recent form and have dropped two straight games.
The latest setback came in a 1-0 defeat at home to Lorient on Saturday, which saw Lyon fall to bottom of the league table with just four points from their last six matches. Despite the disappointment, Deschamps remains confident that his team can bounce back.
"We're playing well but we've also made mistakes," said Deschamps. "We didn't play well enough defensively and we need to improve."
Despite the setback, Lyon has plenty of reasons to be optimistic. They have a strong squad with experienced players such as Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Ander Herrera, who are all capable of scoring goals. They have also had some good results away from home this season, with wins over Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League qualifying round.
However, the team will need to turn things around quickly if they want to avoid another defeat. In order to do so, Deschamps must continue to work closely with his coaching staff to identify areas where improvements can be made and implement them in training sessions.
"The key thing is to get back to winning ways," said Deschamps. "It's important to build confidence and believe in our ability to score goals."
